🍉 Summer vacations & shifts.

At robinhood, we are feeling the beginning of the summer vacations by less sales and empty member shifts. However, we’re prepared for this. If shifts just stay empty that's one thing, it becomes more difficult when shifts are cancelled and no replacements can be found. There was a positive development in this regard last year. In this diagram you can see shifts, cancelled on short notice without replacement. I call this diagram the robinhood "chaos factor" - far left, August 2021 and on the right – today. Luckily, we have a clear downwards trend. Thanks to Covid, we’ve had a chaotic second half of 2021. Without your fantastic support, the place would have been a mess. ❤️

Shifts cancelled on short notice without replacement

For working members this summer: If something comes up, please cancel well in advance (5 days before the shift). If you initiate a swap later and you can't find a replacement, we'll still expect you at the store. Except, of course, if you get sick. In that case, you have totally no obligation to find a substitute. But we’d still ask you to cancel via the Shift App - that way other members will see that the shift needs to be filled.

Please note: If you are not enrolled in at least one shift, your account will be paused - which means you will not be able to purchase at member discount rates. You can unpause your account by enrolling for a future shift.

💳 Digital membership cards

We’d love you all to use the Shift app more often. To get a hold on you, we've come up with a devious tactic. Membership cards will be available in digital form in the Shift App and we’ll no longer print plastic cards. Because we are not an uber-hip, digital startup but an anti-capitalist organic store, we’ll support you if you don’t have a smartphone. Please contact us via email or in the store. The plastic cards mean a lot of effort and costs. And we think that a digital card will be better for most people.

Also, we want to prepare you for an upcoming change later this year. We’ll only allow purchases with discounts and credit if you show us a membership card (until then you can also say your name). The community is growing and not everyone knows everyone anymore and we believe that this measure will increase security and encourage others to finally become members.

To keep it simple, we recommend you to use the Shift App (shift.robinhood.store) on your phone and add it to your home screen in order to stay permanently logged in.

🪅Robin at festivals

Like last year, this summer we want to mix our wild ideas for a better future among festival goers. We'll be offering kiosk booths and food, and have a few workshops lined up. If you want to visit festivals for free and represent robinhood for a fraction of the time or sell our products, feel free to contact us at engage@robinhood.store

🧯You, as Suschi

Do you support robinhood's mission and want to get more deeply involved with us? Robinhood and your neighborhood would love you to commit 3 to 6 hours per month as a Suschi. This means you'll be in charge of the store for that time. You’ll get an introduction into the secrets of organic retail and be sufficiently prepared to help other members with their shift.

And as always, if you're up for anything else which usually doesn't come up in the normal day-to-day operations, get in touch. A suggestion e.g.: take responsibility for the maintenance of the cargo bike for 3 hours a month.

🐄 Stolze Kuh

We want to draw special attention again to the excellent produce of Stolze Kuh, a Brandenburg farm whose milk, cream and meat we have been distributing since the launch of robinhood. Unfortunately, we're hovering around the minimum order price right now. If you sustain yourself by whatever a cow has to offer, we highly recommend Stolze Kuh. In and around of Berlin there’s hardly anything better. The farm employs a pasture milking parlor, calfs are reared by their (foster) mothers for an exceptionally long time and young bulls are slaughtered after 3 years on the pasture which means less stress for the animals. We think this justifies a higher price and we hope you agree.

🛖 Umbrella organization and constitution.

We are moving forward with the formation of a Robinhood umbrella organization. To that end, we are currently working on a constitution and a seal of approval. Our goal is to promote organizations that oppose the unjust distribution of wealth and privilege in the world. While Robinhood will focus on organic food retail, the organizational umbrella will be an entirely new organization with a stand-alone structure and a broader focus.

I wanted to forestall lifestyle creep which usually happens to folks at the IT industry. I’m happy that I found a spot at robinhood’s economic resistance. I’m not often in the store - but I try to respond as soon as possible to your emails whenever I crash something and you find our servers are down again.
